This year's Hugo Award finalists were announced about an hour ago.

It's a good list this year, only a couple of real turds and some truly excellent options.

Best Dramatic Long: HIDDEN FUCKING FIGURES. That one is winning OR ELSE I WILL TURN THIS CAR AROUND I'm just saying.

I am so pleased to be living in a place with a library that has at least eighteen of the nominees available (more if you include ebook format).

That said, I think there is going to be a lot of reading of last-year's books in May and June.

It's been amazingly satisfying to see a list that has so much quality material on it again. I'm going to have a tremendously hard time choosing on some of these, which is a nice problem to have.

And, yes, Hidden Figures!

I was surprised this year's Best Dramatic Short only had one Doctor Who episode in it. Then I learned that there was only one Doctor Who episode in 2016. So, yeah.

Bonus: It's only got two Game Of Thrones on it. A third GoT episode was nominated, but was kicked off the ballot because three from the same source in the same category is no longer allowed.

Interestingly, in the truly awful "Best Doctor Who Episode Written By Steven Moffat" category, I don't think there have ever been three nominees by Steven Moffatt. Three Doctor Who eps, yes, but not three Moffat eps.

I don't care enough to check to see whether I'm remembering that correctly.
