A new state law in South Dakota requires doctors, before performing abortions, to have their patients sign a statement acknowledging that they are terminating the life of ''a whole, separate, unique, living human being."

The statement tells a woman that she has ''an existing relationship with that unborn human being" and the relationship is protected under the US Constitution and the laws of South Dakota.

Women must also be told of the mental and physical health risks of abortion. If a woman has questions, the doctor must answer them in writing, and the answers become part of the patient's medical records.

Of course, the information about the risks of abortion they give you is the "faith-based" stuff - which is to say, the opposite of "fact-based"

A fetus being an individual unborn human being can't be a fact in the scientific sense, but neither can saying it's not an individual human being, because it's a personal definition anyway.

Which is why I find both sides on this issue rather dumb.

yeah.. you can argue if it's life or not, but i think it's pretty clear it's neither "whole" not "seperate" while it's still attached to the mother gaining nutrients from a cord....
