Gmail keeps asking me why I ever want to DELETE these messages, since I have 1 GB of storage.

Well, the answer is simple, foolish Googlecreatures. YOU DON'T PROVIDE ANY HALF-DECENT METHOD OF SORTING THE GODDAMN THINGS. No folders, labels are clunky, difficult and don't do enough to keep the messages apart, and I'd really like to be able to find things WITHOUT needing to search based on message content. It's goddamn slow to do, takes too many pages, and is generally stupid. It's my email box, I want to be able to *sort* and *classify*, not *search*.

I dunno... I actually like the idea of labels. It allows me to have several different areas where a single email might be relevant. The "whay would you want to delete anything" tendency has some people a little paranoid, but there *is* a "Delete Forever" option there. So far, GMail trumps hotmail, and the one I get for free via my ISP.

One beef I do have, though, is the inability to route GMail through Outlook Express -- it means I have to have at least 2 browser windows open all the time.

I just want SORTING. Sort by date. Sort by sender. Sort by thread (the default). Save to folder X. Copy to folder Y. Show me all messages in folder X, in chronological order by sender.

I HATE this stupid attitude of storing them all chronologically by thread and requiring a bloody search to find anything. Come ON, people, the whole point of seraching is that it's what you do when you're NOT organised, and you DON'T know where the right thing is, and so you need to look for it.

Grr. I *really* hate it when people take away functionality and call it a feature. You're right, GMail, I don't *need* to sort when I can search, but I FUCKING WELL WANT TO SORT. Leave searching for people whose brains operate slower than their internet connection.

But it's better than most webmail, like you said, and it will last longer than my soon-to-be-defunct former university address. Maybe they'll add some basic functionality when it leaves beta.
