Hamsters are evil. They lull you into a false sense of security, then they leap at you and try to gnaw your head off when they think you've fallen for the cuteness.
I had one that was moderately vicious when you invaded his territory. Once he was out of the cage he was fine. A friend in college got one at the same time as I did, and it was psycho. We called it the Kamikaze Death Hamster. When she opened the door to his cage, it would launch itself out, teeth bared, trying for the jugular.
Of course, these were the dwarf hamsters...I think the smaller things get, the more insane they are.
Mine also launched himself down a flight of stairs in his little walky hamster ball. Luckily he just got a bloody nose.
You're shorter, which is all I was going on. I quit smoking ... tobacco ... but I still haven't smoked in a month or two. I'm still going with your dream vision that schizophrenics aren't insane, just more aware and not necessarily able to deal with it well (dealing with it is something I'm intent upon mastering), but I also think I've got a dose of depression ... which I really think is just my broken heart.
