In honour of our New Pope(tm), I am in need of horrific and graphic violence of a sort rarely seen outside of video games.

I'm looking for first-person shooters. Preference is given to games where I get to shoot Nazis, but I'll settle for aliens or terrorists in a pinch.

The Call Of Duty expansion, Medal of Honour Pacific, Soldier Of Fortune, Unreal Tournament (any version), Half-life 2, Doom 3 - anyone got those that they're willing to lend, or know of a place to get 'em cheap? Any suggestions for fun kaboomy-type games, that preferably don't rely on "huge firepower against nigh-invulnerable opponents" to make it challenging?

If you're out to shoot Nazis, you can probably D/L an old copy of Wolfenstein 3-D for free. I think it's abandoneware at this point.

Yeah, but it's not as much fun as later ones.

One of the first FPS games; involved trying to escape a Castle while killing Nazis and their dogs with any of 4 weapons.

I know, I've played it. First FPS I ever played. And I think only.

I might still have my CD for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I'll check later tonight.

Ooooh. Return - I had a copy of that briefly, but returned the CD to the owner before I beat it.

It got a little heavy on the "shoot the giant monster, a lot" end of things, as I recall, but it was great fun anyway.

I might have Quake 2 (or 3? it's the one with the sweet sweet railgun) in .ZIP format, as well.

I love me the railgun, I do.

I didn't play through RTCW -- got bored or unimpressed with something, I suppose. Maybe I'll give it another try, now that I've got a beefier machine.

If I can find it, that is.

Both 2 and 3 had a sweet railgun. I own 2 - and it's a little old and too "monsters take HUGE AMOUNTS OF BULLETS!" for my taste. I like being able to actually, y'know, kill things with good shots instead of needing to dodge for 5 minutes while I empty a bullethose into it.

[livejournal.com profile] shadows_torn has Unreal Tournament, and probably a couple of others, that he'd be willing to trade or sell.

Depending on the edition and price, I might be willing to buy that outright. Cool.

Battlefield Vietnam, perhaps?

I just picked up SWAT 4 (Best. Game. Ever.) - but I'll be playing it for awhile, I'm sure. You might like it.

Anything like Battlefield 1942? I found 1942 to be, well, not fun, because of the huge size of the maps, the stupidity of the AI, and the inherent uselessness of doing, well, anything. It took so long to make a difference that it just wasn't entertaining. If I want to play Capture The Flag, I'll dig up Unreal Tournament again. I'm not interested in multiplayer play, here, mostly - I hate having to rely on internet people to be teammates in games like this.

Either way. Anything action-oriented and violent is certainly going to get my attention for a while.
