Japanese culture is very wierd from an American perspective. On one hand, you have extreme racism as a cultural norm (we're all gaijin, which means more than just "foreigner"; it implies a lesser status, just like "barbarian" did to the Greeks) as well as pretty intense sexism (female Japanese news anchors, for example, usually speak in a falsetto, which is done to make them sound younger and thus more submissive), but on the other hand you have pretty radical acceptance of human sexuality (penis-shaped "lolipops" are common during the Japanese fertility festival, for instance).

That's a valid question. I think it's arguable that japanese culture validates male human sexuality. I think we just have to look at the majority of hentai, but what about yaoi and dickgirls?

nod. i just find it fascinating, cause it's like an amplified mirror of the us in some ways. there is this huge sexual promiscuity, but there's also this large denail abotu in in some ways. look at their censorship laws. they are a complete denial of what people seem to want. of course, as i understand it, the censorship laws were largely made to comform with western ideology. this developed into people thinking of new and creative ways for they to portray kinkiness...

The censorship laws were imposed upon them by the US after they lost WWII. I suspect mostly as a big "Hah hah you lost. No more privates for you." I hear they're being ignored more and more now.

Yeah, the old law used to be "no public hair," well.. that one was quite obvious to get around... i think the current law is "no gentials." That's when the whole "hair nudes." stuff started showing up.

and now... there's a whole slew of "underground" uncensored porn. If you look hard enough you can even find uncensored stuff from several of the bigger mainstream AV actresses.
