Letting the assholes be free to be assholes is what good government is supposed to prevent. I'm sure there are plenty of people in the UK that, were it up to them, would, for example, stand at the entrances to nude beaches and prevent the people from going in there.

Their right to be muslim fundies stops at everyone else's face. The fundies are freeer, the general population is less free. Net, I'd say that's a definite loss of freedom, given that Iraq is notoriously not majority-fundie.
