My mother is an English teacher. She teaches The Crucible, and every few years she gets a Jehovah's Witless who refuses to consider reading the book because it might contain information or cause thought. I greatly enjoy her solution to this: She assigns them Oedipus Rex instead. She's never had a complaint about that one, and since they always fail the reading comprehension tests *anyway*, they might as well fail while providing a useful definition of "irony" for the other students.
