US Government: All of the USA is a battlefield, and hence the only laws that apply are those that the military must follow in a shooting war zone.

This is said in reference to Jose Padilla, an American arrested by police serving a warrant in O'Hare airport, and then "captured" by the military in the terrifying free-fire zone of a private cell in a New York City prison.

Who knew the US got its solicitor-general from Wolfram and Hart?

Ag.

Has anyone seen my sense of the ridiculous? It appears to have been blown out of the water, and I really think I need it at this point.

"was taken into custody by the military"

There's a thing called the Posse Comitatus Act in the states that clearly sets out the separation of police and military areas of responsibility. This arrest by the military on American soil, of an American, would seem to clearly violate American law.

But then, the White House has been making up law as it goes along, so why should this be any different?

There is that separation. But 'unofficially', specialized units like SFOD-D and others have been used in a domestic capacity within the CONUS for years.
