My mother gave me the original Star Wars trilogy on DVD. She was very concerned as I opened it, and asked me if that was the one I had been talking about buying.

I checked the package and said "Yes, absolutely, it's the one *without* all the changes. It's exactly the set I wanted, thanks."

Her response: "Oh, good. I just went into the store and told them that I needed the one where Han shoots first. I'm so glad they knew what I was talking about."

Cool.

We still have the VHS set they put out after the remastering but before the first round of added scenes and redone effects. I want my stepdad to put them on DVD, as they're starting to get a bit old.

I didn't think they still sold the unmutilated versions.

They didn't; it was a special release that came out in September.

I'm now kind of glad I couldn't remember the words "original theatrical release", as my description of them as "the ones where Han Solo shoots first" has resulted in an amusing story.

Congrats!

I have, I think, all versions of the original trilogy that have been released since 1986 on home video except the laserdisc version (I am not 'fessing up to having those on pirate MPG mind you).

My ex-wife gave me the original wide-screen versions the one time in the early 90's they were released on VHS, too.

The DVD's your mom gave you? Priceless. At least, priceless 10 years from now. Enjoy them.

Merry Christmas, my friend.

Yikes. I have the original trilogy on VHS dubbed off the TV and The Movie Network in the 1980s, and now I have this version. I refused to pay money for any of the in betweens.

I would have bought the 1990s revision on VHS, if I'd had the money at the time *and* I'd felt that spending it on new copies of movies I had already was a good idea. I didn't, and I didn't, so I didn't.

Hope you enjoy it. I have that set as well, but I can't stand to watch it. Looks like shite to me, but we've already debated this. Merry X-mas and all that spoo!

Don't care. It's the version of the movies I like, and it's better than my old VHS copies. My copy of A New Hope was dubbed off TV (with the commercials paused through) in the early 1980s, man.

My VHS copy has 'Free HBO Weekend' running across the bottom of the screen. :)

Congratulations, you have laserdiscs on DVD.

I blame George, not you.

I have the original on VHS and I have the newer version as well. The original's only been watched a couple of times. I never watched the second version and it took a little work to find out what "Han shot first!" was all about, because at first my reaction was kind of "Well, Duh." :) When they told me about I had to all out both my version to find out which I had only to find out I had both.

Aw, that's cute.

I am probably the only person I know who has never seen any of the "Star Wars" movies, and I don't intend to see them because now they're all futzed up and fiddled with.

Oh, go see 'em. If you can't grab the original theatrical releases, grab the 1990s re-releases with the improved CGI but no added scenes, and watch those. They're great.
