Given the actions of protesters in our cities in the past, I am not opposed to the use of UC's to counter the threat that a good number of protesters pose to personal property, civilians, and the safety of law enforcement personnel.
I'm just not feeling the love from you anymore, sweetie. Was it something I said?
Let me guess: There has never been violence at a protest in North America that was the fault of the protesters, ever. It is /always/ the fault of the police: Right?
Spies? You think that it is unreasonable for a plainclothes officer to blend into a crowd to look for illegal activity, where there is a higher probability of it occuring? They wore masks to not only conceal their identity, but also blend in with the crowd of protesters who were also wearing masks.
And there is still no evidence that they provoked violence. I have seen the footage you are talking about, and also footage that you have not seen. There is no evidence, beyond a man holding a FAKE ROCK. He didn't even do anything with it. They escaped by rushing the police line, because the 'peaceful' protesters were starting to assault them.
Go back to East Germany, you Stasi-loving motherfucker.
And seriously, fake rocks? Are you so goddamn stupid that you actually believe they went out and bought FAKE ROCKS? What the fuck is in your brainpan that's crushing the life out of your grey matter? YOU CAN'T FUCKING LIE ABOUT THE CONTENT OF THE FOOTAGE. We've all seen it, and anybody who has seen it knows what a lying piece of shit you are.
See: You are a coward. You would not say any of that to me in person. The only reason that you are saying it now, is because you can hide behind the soothing veil of anonymity that the internet provides. You can't even debate without trying to insult me, because you are intellectually weak - despite what you may believe.
I conduct taskings which include riot control as my profession. I don't critique it to try and make myself look intelligent, as you clearly do.
Police and military agencies that train in riot control have fake rocks, bottles, molotov cocktails, etc, so that they don't get injured during training.
Haha, do you really believe that I wouldn't call you out for being an asshole in person? What kind of people do you hang out with that won't say "Hey, you're being a prick."
I conduct taskings which include riot control as my profession.
This pretty much explains it. You're not a Stasi-loving motherfucker. You're actively part of them.

...and those rocks their carrying are fake. Suuuurrrre.
The people that I hang out with would not respond to a statement that I make with 'you retard', and 'asshole'. Not only do I not associate with people who have personality disorders, there is a basic form of mutual respect between myself and my friends. What kind of people do you hang out with, that you can talk to that way without having your balls kicked into the back of your throat?
May you be blinded by pepper spray, choked by tear gas, and bruised by rubber bullets. :-)
The people you hang out with are either like you or are of the belief that politeness is intrinsically good. You do not deserve politeness. You are the very definition of authoritarian scum and I am horrified beyond belief to see that someone on my friendslist associates with you.
Believe it or not, there *are* potential distinctions between "does not trust protesters and gives police the benefit of the doubt when dealing with the historically hysterically irrational" and "Loves the stasi". Hal goes too far, in my opinion, to defend the police and assumes they are always both honest and correct until proven otherwise. I believe this is a very bad assumption. You, on the other hand, assume that all cops are evil, which is an EQUALLY bad assumption.
The cops are clearly in the wrong, this time. That doesn't mean they're always wrong.
In another comment he mentions that he engages in riot cop training- he's not just acting as an enabler, he's one of them.
And I don't assume that all cops are evil- I assume that every individual cop is an asshole until proven otherwise. Personal history and experience bears out the wisdom of this approach.
He's infantry in the Canadian Armed Forces and has worked professionally as a security guard. He has, in fact, been involved in riot cop training.
And once again, your invocation of "one of them" conflates him, with his mistaken default belief in the inherent wrongness of protesters and his default belief that people who threaten others should not be allowed to do so, with the idea of police who abuse their authority. This is an expression of *your* mistaken default belief that all police are dangerous to you and society, and have no motivation beyond active malice.
I assume that every individual cop is an asshole until proven otherwise. Personal history and experience bears out the wisdom of this approach.
One might suspect, were one a suspicious sort, that the reaction you get from them is somewhat dependent on how you treat them in the first place.
I find it much more useful and more practical to remember that the police are *me*. Or, more specifically, that they're fellow people from my own society who've chosen to do a job. Do some of them abuse the authority this job gives them? Absolutely, just as there are abusive middle management and abusive politicians and abusive store clerks - but it's an extreme minority who abuse their authority deliberately and who sought out this authority so that it could be abused.
