From the BBC today:
By the time the Skycar goes into production - probably in about six years time - it will be capable of climbing 6,000ft a minute and travelling at up to 400 miles an hour.

From the SEC, four and a half years ago:
As of late 2002, MI's approximately 40 years' of development has resulted in a prototype Skycar capable of hovering about fifteen feet above the ground.

The really important part of the SEC case, of course, is that the makers of the "skycar" are frauds, aiming to bilk the credulous out of their cash. This has been known for years.

And yet, the BBC don't know it.

i hate to say this but i've seen this featured on discovery and cnn as well - and the prototype was flying, one demo was about 3 stories off the ground and moving at a decent speed

can all three of these (cnn, bbc, discovery) all be wrong about it? it may be that he raised more money than he should have but the guy has actually built a vtol vehicle that works

In all the videos I've ever see of the craft, it's been suspended by a crane (usually out of frame).

On the flipside, I can't make a car hover 15 feet in the air.

But, as long as the news says that someone is going to be able to make a car perform like that, some engineer, somewhere, will feel motivated to try and "beat" them.
