Uh, yeah, my first reaction was, "Oh, hey, police dog. Neat." And then I watched it again and thought, "Wait, did it just clear the entire goddamned car in a single bound? 0_o "
I wonder why he didn't think about diving in the car and closing the door.
#1: No time. #2: By the time 40kg of dog hits your upper body while moving at a sprint, it's hard to go in the *opposite direction* and get into the car.
Not for me, I can hit a moving target with a crooked shotgun...i'm like a surgeon with firearms...all else fails a swift punch to the teeth ought to shatter the police doggies skull before it hits you...
Trust me, the dog will move faster than you. I do believe this one is still in training. I've seen dogs that zig-zag on the charge, German's are brilliant and decisive. They live to please, "What, master? You want me to run head long into death and bite the mean scary criminal. Okokokok but gimme the treats and loves!"
Fair enough, but how many hands do you have? I counted five targets, and I don't care how good you are there's no chance of hitting all five in that time.
Maybe a swift punch to the teeth if you are punching with a crowbar. Otherwise, those canid jaws are going to break your hand so bad you'll be lucky if they can put it together again. There's not a lot that easily can shatter the skull of an incredibly successful animal that has evolved to meet all challenges WITH ITS FACE.
The dog is likely moving at about 30mph. The guy with the gun isn't looking for dog, he's looking for people. If and when he does see teh dog, he has about two seconds to not only think of something, but act upon that thought.Shepherds carry somewhere between 75 to 100 pounds of lean mean tame wolf with them, and whatever it is you've got, time isn't one of them. Any mistakes he makes favor the dog being attached to his body, which will very effectively end the issue.
The dog clearing the car.....didn't see that one coming, did you?
That was likely what he was counting on, shooting the dog as it came around the car. I've watched law enforement around here train dogs like that and the air time and distance they can cover ought to frighten you.
Is this a dog that is happy with his life? I'm willing to bet he is. He has someone to loive, somewhere to go, and something to do, and he likes the idea of being point man in the pack.
No sadder than someone who comes in and shuffles files for a company about which he does not care, every day. The dog, at least, has companionship and a reward.

I'm going with emotion on this one. Yeesh.

I love how the animal treats the car as an irrelevant object, nearly.
Where was the footage from? That a police dog?

Is it sad? Yeah, just a little.
