"As for that VP talk all the time, I’ll tell you, I still can’t answer that question until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day?"

And yes, that's a direct quote.

The dog and pony show can be quite entertaining if you look at it the right way.

Rarely have I been doubfounded with politics, as growing up in the DC area, it's like football for us, and we know as well as any that anything can go. But for McCain to sit back and think "If I have an accident and can't be president come March, who would I want to fill my shoes?" and then come up with Palin... well, it still blows my mind.

That's because McCain didn't pick her. Why would anyone pick a woman he's only met once six months ago? Someone Else made the pick.

*chuckles* Oh, I'm aware :)

As AP pointed out: http://www.wtop.com/?nid=213&sid=1469286

"....Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religion Liberties Commission, Palin is "straight out of veep central casting." Land said he had urged the McCain camp to consider the political unknown."

Makes sense to me. Grab a woman to steal the votes from disgruntled Hilary supporters. Grab an active pro-life advocate to attract the conservatives who think he is too abortion-friendly. It's a bloody cunning political move on his part

I just hope that Hillary has the good sense to get up at some point and directly say, "Excuse me, everyone, but I've been a major part of the political scene for decades now. Are you seriously saying that you're going to go vote for some woman who's been governor for two years, who disagrees with me on every issue, who has only showed up to add some youth to McCain's campaign, and you're voting for her for the same reasons that you voted for me? Are you seriously equating her with me?!"

So far as I know, not Governor, but mayor.

She was mayor of a 9K suburb for a bit, and has since been Governor of Alaska for two years.

But Obama lacks experience...

9k? I heard 5.4k, as of the 2000 census.

I heard nine, but it's pretty immaterial either way- it ain't no kind of qualification for Vice President.

Hey, it matters to me!

If it's 5.4, that means that the town she was Mayor of has a smaller population than my five-building, doesn't-have-dorms inner-city college.

It's not really about Hillary. It's about punishing the Democrats for not giving them what they wanted.

...which most of the left does in this country year in and year out.

Seriously, I think this move is going to backfire hilariously with the old-school feminists. No matter what people think about Clinton, there's no denying that she's a serious, experienced politician, who happens to be female.

THIS chick is an experienced female, who happens to be a politician.

They're not asking the Americans to vote her for Second-From-The-Top Woman, they're asking them to vote her for Second-From-The-Top Politician. Voting for her because she's a woman is about as bad* as NOT voting for her because she's a woman.

* It's patronising, it's like "letting" her win, and its basically saying that because she's a woman, she can't possibly win on her own merits.**

** Unfortunately she couldn't possibly win on her own merits, but that's got nothing to do with her gender and everything to do with her being a n00b. Check again in a decade or two and see if she's survived politics yet.

It's not such a bad question. Our current veep runs the country, but the traditional role is to do absolutely nothing. I wouldn't care, except McC, if he wins, is shockingly old, has a really bad heart, high blood pressure, and...very well might die in office.

Step 1: Find some good pictures of Sarah Palin.

Step 2: Get some of those people who do the really *good* celebrity fakes, and set them to work on those pictures.

Step 3: Distribute widely without comment or claim.

She's a public figure, after all. She has to be ready to accept that a certain level of defamation is inevitable.
