(Actually, I'd be hard pressed to say whether I liked "Silence in the Library" or "Dr. Horrible" more. I might give Dr. Horrible the edge, because Silence was a little too derivative of "The Time Traveler's Wife".)
Basic tenets of Mormonism? Some of them. I had some Mormon neighbors when I was a kid. I don't understand the appeal of the magic underwear, but I am casually familiar with some of their beliefs.
Card's books aren't the problem. (Or, his earlier books...Empire and company, which compare An Inconvenient Truth to the Unabomber Manifesto, are more problematic. Still, not the real problem.)
SF fandom has the brainworms. I don't know if that's always been the case, but I think it's likely. Few years back, I reread a bunch of the stuff I loved as a preteen/teenager. Large swaths of it were dreck. *coughHeinleincough*
And still, day of, I maintain my right to kibbutz about Whedon piggbacking on the competency of his cast to make a mediocre script in the hands of a deeply sub-par[1] director beat out a good script well-presented by a good director for the award.
Wait. Woahwoahwoah, it beat "The Constant"?!?! That's a crime. Screw all the other potentials, that should have been the winner hands down. No Whedon, no Moffat, just that. In a series like Lost to have an episode like that which stands out so far above the others is a testament to just how good that episode is. The Constant FTW.
