Unless there's something weird going on with the moose across the Atlantic ocean, AFAIK they do not have antlers all year long, but drop 'em and start growing them anew for a new rutting season. So depending on timing, you could see quite a lot of antler-less moose around.
Fun factoid: in calcium-poor areas, cattle, sheep, deer and moose have been observed to kill small mammals and birds and then eat 'em up for the crunchy bones.
Yeah, but my point is that we don't have to worry about whether or not it's fired off this week's headspikes against helicopters or not - immature + female = uses corrosive spit against airborne targets, not antlers.
Very true. What about the bite? Do they inject venom as well? We occasionally lose people to the venomous bite.
Curious anecdote: when I was a wee tyke (about five or six), and we used to visit my grandmother's relatives in the countryside, one of my childhood phobias was that I would wake up in the middle of the night, and see a moose outside of the window, staring in.
Moose. Staring in.
This picture has done nothing to quell the uncomfortable memory, and even if I live on 2nd floor right now, I shall take some weaponry with me to the bed tonight, because there's a forest right by the side of the house.
