To everyone who is linking me to the "Texas bans all marriage" thing:

I linked it half a decade ago. WHEN IT WAS NEW.

I'm having trouble *finding* my link, but, fuckoff. It's forever fucking old. People clued in to the "no state equivalent in any way to marriage" to match "marriage" way back when.

So go away.

You have my sympathy. I remember exclaiming out loud when I read the actual text of that stupid thing.

I figure all it will take is one cranky multi-millionaire who wants out of his/her marriage to really light things up in the courts.

Moi aussi. Saw the recent news on Twitter and thought, "Didn't we figure this out and point and laugh back when it was passed?"

I linked it half a decade ago.

You LIE. It's less than four and a half years old!

"Four and a half years" rounds to *how many* decades, again?

It depends. Are you rounding down or rounding up?

To the nearest half-decade, of course.

You don't round to the nearest half anything. That's communism!

Texas passed a law preventing the state from recognising "any status equivalent in any way to marriage".

"marriage" is a status legally equivalent to marriage.

Texas banned marriage.

For some reason, people who missed it the first time have recently started wibbling over it.

The "for some reason" is that someone running for governor, or planning to, is using this information as part of her campaign.

Attorney General, actually. Which makes a bit more sense, as she's supposed to, like, know about the law and shit. Also, she's running against the person who should have caught this when it was originally worded.

I wondered why this had come up again, because I remember when [livejournal.com profile] theweaselking linked to it. Should've guessed it had to do with a political campaign. (I've been avoiding the news lately. Which makes me a less well-informed citizen, but also less likely to jump off the Aurora Bridge this winter, so, y'know.)
