My mother loves shelled reptiles of all descriptions. One day as she was driving us to school she put herself in serious danger rescuing this stonking great tortoise from the middle of a busy highway. The tortoise in turn put us all in danger by insisting on crawling about under her feet whilst she was driving. We got to school, and my mum called for some of the high school boys to help her with the beast. No one would go near it... turns out she had picked up a snapping turtle. The shell was about the same diameter as a dinner plate.
