...and of course my immediate thought is, "Isn't that what you do for vampires?"

I cheated in my pick, because I actually saw this one yesterday.

I would laugh more, except, ...well.

Since when do Baptists use holy water?

Even the baptismal pool is just filled from the tap... Baptist ministers don't get the magical powers that priests do.

I keep telling people that more of the religious crazies are in Florida than in Ohio, but no one believes me...

"For Rodriguez, the question is whether she was advocating atheism to her students. In a public school setting, that would seem to be improper."

Huh? How is that improper? Sorry I don't follow (I'm not American)

Due to the separation of Church and State, you're only allowed to encourage children to be Christian in public schools.

Talking religion with students is bad. Suggesting that they should adopt/not adopt any given religion? Very bad. Pointing out that particular religious positions are bigoted and idiotic for *fact-based* reasons? You're not just fired, you're probably dead.

Put another way: Public schools are a government function. The US constitution prohibits *all* employees at *all* levels of government from "the establishment of religion".

More important than "improper", though, is "irrelevant". Whether she was talking about her non-religion with students or not is completely immaterial. What matters is that deluded insane fuckwits assaulted her and doused her in "holy water" because they didn't like the fact that she doesn't share their delusional fuckwittery.

The sad thing is that the holy water crap didn't really surprise me...

What I was thinking is that there is cell-level evidence (observable DNA mutations in microorganisms) that evolution is real... it would be irresponsible not to teach that because some zealots don't want to see it.

Religion is stupid, by definition. If it wasn't stupid, it wouldn't be called "religion".

I got it right this time!
It's a good thing no one's doused me in holy water yet. Better keep an eye out.
