Williams-Bolar, a single mother, works as a teacher's aide at a high school in Akron and is just 12 credits away from earning a teaching degree at the University of Akron, according to the Beacon Journal.

Her felony conviction will bar her from being licensed to teach in Ohio.
I'm glad the children of the state of Ohio are safe from this menace. Who knows what she might have done in the name of education. Shame on her for trying to improve her lot and that of her children.

Oh, gods -- that makes it all even sadder :(

I'd been tweeting about this case earlier, but I hadn't seen that detail.

Heartbreaking :(

He denied that Williams-Bolar was singled out because she is black and the Copley-Fairlawn district is 75% white.

Riiiiight.

Really, America? REALLY?! Is this what we've come to? So now it's against the law for kids to get a half-decent education? AS IF OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM WASN'T ALL READY SCREWED UP ENOUGH?!

SAVE US, MICHELLE RHEE!!!! SAVE US BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE!!! HELP!!!!

Footnote: And I thought Indiana's educational system was bad...

Oh, believe me, I know first hand--having been forced to spend twelve excruciating years getting what in Indiana passes for an education. I have spent more than half my life wishing I had been born somewhere else.

I'm just lucky I was smart to begin with, otherwise I'd be totally screwed.

Good lord.

Even my high school wasn't that bad.

Hey there, I'm currently going to the University of Akron so I can provide a bit more insight into what's going on here. For the record, I am on the mother's side. Just, y'know, to acknowledge my bias.

Anyway, the mother "lied" about her children living with grampa, they lived with her, she just said they lived with their grandfather so they would send them to this better school district. I'm not certain how the school found out but they're basically making an example of her. They're also ruining her life and her future. They're also ruining her children's lives. I'm going to be discussing things with a local Women's Rights group here at the University to see if we can do anything. Please feel free to tweet and Facebook and whatever else the fuck out of this. Hopefully we can get the media involved and even get her on The View or something so she can write fancy books and get the fuck out of Ohio. Only wish I could.

Don't you know it's stealing for black children to try to learn the same as white children?
