She's a master bander, and a biologist at the National Zoo (or at least she used to be). She's used to dealing with raptors. And she's got a really firm grip on those legs.

Actually, yes it is. Raptors use their talons readily (and to good effect) when in a defensive situation, but their beaks not so much.

You're actually much more likely to get bit by a songbird than a hawk.
