"The Journal cited two employees--one who has left Zynga and another that still works with the company--who hired attorneys to reach a settlement that saw them give up some, but not all, of the unvested shares."
if you've left the company, why give back anything? if all they're threatening you with is termination, uh....no threat there. I'm wondering if there is more to this.
Okay, could someone explain vesting, I apparently missed that little thing in my high school "random nonsensical financial creatures created by dickless arseless and brainless fart huffing santorum stains with BMAs" classes.
Short version: We give you piece of paper X, than states you have the right to buy y shares at z price... but only at time 123 (which most often is tied to length of service, if not a date).
Until that time the right to purchase the stock is something that can't be taken away from you, but you also can't purchase it until that time.
Of course, if you don't give the stock back and they fire you? The stock will never, ever, vest. So... nice folks that.
