Me: "Wait, why are you having trouble Sneaking?"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "I don't know. Sometimes I forget to turn off the pip-boy light...."

Me: "THAT WOULD DO IT"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: ".. but other times they just FIND me."

Me: "Hmm. What's your Stealth?"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "100."

Me: "That should be plenty. You do have the perk, right? The ones that make movement not count?"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "Silent Running? No..."

Me: "Woman, there are DEATHCLAWS out there!"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "Deathclaws have not been a problem so far in the Mojave!"

Me: "Where have you been going?"

[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "THE PARTS WITH NO DEATHCLAWS?"

I too prefer the parts with no deathclaws. They hit ally my triggers. Somehow more frightening than clowns.

But I did just use a stealthboy, stealth of 100 plus Silent Running to get those damned eggs out of that damned cave (Fallout New Vegas) without having to fight all 15 or whatever of them are in there.

I went in stealth mode to the Quarry, and had the anti-materiel rifle with the incendiary rounds, picked them off one by one from a distance. Nice and easy, lots of exp.

This.

I then took my anti-materiel rifle (and my ballistic fist) and wiped out the entire Legion camp. All of it.

I made it through the quarry by hiding way the hell on top of the mining... feed belt thing... and aiming at where the little red check marks were, rather than anything I could see. Boone helped. And then I ran.

But I wiped out the Legion fort too. On Hardcore. With my terrible shooting skills (and Boone and ED-E, bless). And I cheered.

Sniper rifle with a side-order of Fatman, myself.

I'm in the Divide. >.< Deathclaws are, Howard-and-Bob help us all, not the apex predator. But yeah, I'm going to be going with Stealth Boys and possibly a lot of prayer.

Nope. They're midway between a t-rex and a velociraptor by way of a tarrasque - all scales and horns and spikes and OPPOSABLE GODDAMN THUMBS.

(I have just GIS'd "deathclaw" and now *I* will never sleep again, because on the first page of results there are multiple Rule 34 Violations and no. Just no.)

Oh. After this comment I did a straight Google search and looked at the pictures on Fallout Wiki... and yeah, so I can see where stealthing up to half a mile away and using a sniper rifle would be the way, way best way.

And am not going to try GIS; thanks for the warning; sorry for your brain cells.

Fallout.

Specifically, "Fallout: New Vegas", the latest and best of the series.

You *do* need to play it. It is an amazing game. I'm at 250 hours, and I mean, I play slowly, but damn. :D

If Deathclaws were real this would be a self-limiting problem.

-- Steve shouldn't be surprised, really, given how Black Isle/Obisdian treats sexuality in their games. (C'mon, the "sex robot" quest in New Vegas should've been enough of a warning sign that Here Be 'Shippers.)

PS: I do really need to dust that off and play the DLC I've purchased; I understand that there's more missions out there to play too, including following up on the Burned Man myth.)

I've got some free time between Christmas and New Year's that I think I'll set aside for a return to New Vegas; by then I should've killed enough reskinned Flood (and found all the sweet, sweet Terminals packed into Halo: Anniversary) and made enough headway on the Formula One circuit (ah, Forza Motorsport) in my interruptable free time that I can go back without regret. Unless Child of Eden draws me back in first...

-- Steve has a surfeit of games to play at the moment.

I am perpetually amused that whenever you go Google Image searches for things, you find Rule 34 material. When I search the same things at your behest, I get none. (Yes, I have SafeSearch turned off.) Apparently the internet is nicer to me!

No. More monstrous humanoid. It looks like a horned devil, only zombified and with long grasping emaciated claws. Looks to be about seven feet tall.

Who needs stealth when you have a BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIG gun?

(no subject)

Date: 2011-11-21 01:02 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] theweaselking.livejournal.com
You do, because if you don't have Stealth then the Deathclaws will sometimes know where you are before you know where they are. And then they will eat you. As a pack.

It is usually hard to use your BIIIIIIIIIIG gun against 5 Deathclaws at once.

Deathclaws are formidable for two important reasons.
  • their claws kill in one to three swipes regardless of armor.

  • they are much, much faster than you.

Frequently, the best way to deal with them is to use the one or two shots you might get off to cripple the legs. Or drop mines.

Ah but do they have skills to match my masterful tapping of the jump key so I can run in a strange bouncing motion, occasionally jerkling to the left and right for no apparent reason?

Alas, this prevents the mine dropping because the directionless screaming and running may cause backtracking
