Verisign seizes domain name... that is registered outside the US, by non-Americans, who bought it from a non-American company, that is hosted outside the US.

Why? Because, apparently, the State of Maryland feels that non-Americans moving money from one non-US location to another non-US location might be illegal in Maryland, and claims that you can't "flout US law" simply by NOT BEING AMERICANS OR IN THE USA.

From Maryland no less, the corporate tax haven of the whole country. It's okay for that state to help every damned corporation in the country to shirk other states' tax laws, but damned if they'll let evil foreigners do it.

I believe you have mistaken Maryland for Delaware.

Verisign needs to be sued somehow over this, and in the meantime an injunction should take control of .com out of their hands.

Why? Verisign has been delegated to control .com by Department of Commerce. Your domain is always subject to whatever whim the registrar feels like. At least .com doesn't force you to have a local company with a local office in the country like some other TLDs do.

Because Verisign has shown to be a poor steward of the namespace (domain slamming, "Site Finder"), not to mention its poor record in the security department. And while the domain is subject to the registrar's "whims", Verisign isn't the domain registrar (although i guess it doesn't matter anymore).

We really need to write a new anthem that pays homage to our stupidity.
