Aye. There's a guy I've gamed with who was always using his phone for rolling dice, and using an app where you just put in the number of rolls and it spits out the results; people were getting pretty suspicious about his success rate — I've used dice apps when I forget my dice, but I use the ones that actually have dice rattling around, and when I've rolled, I put it down on the table for people to see, rather than looking at the screen and declaring what it is, then sticking it back in my pocket.

People have suggested buying him his own dice several times, not sure if they ever got around to it, but I've not seen anyone call/question him on it.

I usually use my laptop and a series of macros for D&D characters because frankly math is hard and counting is hard and on Saturdays sometimes literacy is hard. Depends on how much sleep I got.

My group doesn't seem to mind, probably related to the number of failures I get - I strongly suspect the pseudo-random algorithm I'm using is significantly "fairer" than my antique collection of mixed dice.

Incidentally, little animations of dice rattling around doesn't make them fairer. Electronic dice physics simulations are easier to weight than real dice, since they don't have to show "shaved corners" or "drilled faces" and whatnot.

The thing about dice-rolling apps that make noise is that they're the same as camera apps that make camera-clicky noises: You can tell when the user is rolling.

So you can't take, say, a known-fair app and roll over and over until you get a good roll, then declare that as your first and only roll.

Still, the "the app makes it harder to cheat" doesn't solve the real problem, which is the cheating.

True! Since I'm using a modified chat program, there's a log right there of everything I've done, but again, hasn't been an issue.

Of the various groups shown the only ones I think I could put up with for any length of time are Patty's. And even then I might have to boot Chad for being an annoying twink...
