Denmark bans kosher and halal slaughter, points out that animal cruelty is animal cruelty even if you're being cruel to animals because God says so.
(This reminds me of an article I saw yesterday on a snake-handling Christian, who kept around 30 rattlesnakes and copperheads to use in his sermons, and who said in an interview that his supplier of live mice had moved away, but he hadn't gotten a new one because most of the snakes wouldn't eat anyway and besides, they only live for 2-3 months so it's not important to feed them. Reminder: A rattlesnake in captivity should live 20 years. Said Christian died of a snakebite shortly after giving that interview.)

Date: 2014-02-20 02:21 am (UTC)Your reminded article reminds me of a friend of my mum's. He was a herpetologist, and he despaired of the horrible quality of the rodents he could buy to feed his carnivores-- so he built an outbuilding with heat and light, brought in his own well-sourced rodents, kept them clean, well fed, and entertained, made sure to breed them responsibly, and only then fed them to the snakes and monitors. My mum had some of his rats as pets for years. They were beautiful and sweet.
Turdbag snake handler deserved it. Moron.
