Wow, Rick Moen is apparently a truly terrible person who is bad at both reading and thinking.

That's sad. I thought he was smarter than that, and I really like Deirdre Moen's writing, whose blog he's commenting on.

This is like "discovering Emma Bull is married to Will Shetterly and doesn't object to his statements" level of sad. Because that comment and it's defense of Ted Beale? That's Shetterly-level stupid.

Wow, I really don't understand the point of that argument that Moen is making there. Yes, maybe, possibly, you could argue that what Vox Anus was saying in that one instance was a hypothetical, intended ironically, but why would you? Vox Anus is not, himself, ever in good faith about anything, certainly not in his readings of others. Smearing Vox Anus in any way possible seems to me not just justifiable but an imperative.

Besides, we all know Vox Anus is in perfect dead earnest. To the extent he means anything, he means that. He's hypothesizing on the square. Imagining the cloak of irony around that remark represents his views - i.e. that he doesn't really fantasize about murdering women in horrible ways to achieve his desired social ends - requires one to ignore the cumulative weight of everything he's ever said on the subject.

Also, if PZ Myers is the asshole and Vox Anus is the victim, I have to wonder if that whole paragraph is an intrusion from bizarro world. It's imbecilic.

On file 770 he's being very anti-Beale, although reading this and his statements there I think he's evolved now that he's had a chance to think.

I don't believe he's a Beale fan - he says it, I have no reason to disagree. I just ALSO take him at his word that he thinks "PJ" PZ Myers is worse, which just shows a truly pathetic lack of reading comprehension.
