Me: "So, our hotel room carpet has cigarette burns THERE and suspicious stains here, here, and here. Oh, well - it doesn't appear to be anything beyond discoloured, and, really, in this neighbourhood, I'm just glad there aren't crack pipes in the refrigerator."
[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "But the air! It smells of vanilla and fresh-baked apple-cinnamon pie!"
Me: "That's two blocks over, downwind of the HoJos kitchen, next to the beer store, three "payday loan" scammers, the tanning salon, and the off-track betting. The air outside our hotel smells like MANURE, remember?"
[livejournal.com profile] torrain: "I think they pronounce that 'healthful country living' in the tourist brochures."

Ah, yes. At certain points in the year, when the wind is just right, there is nowhere outdoors in all of K-W you can go that doesn't smell of manure.

On the other hand, proximity to farms means good produce. Toronto's produce sucks by comparison. If you have a chance, go here: http://www.herrles.com/
