Speaking of which, writing down a page ref so I'll remember it: pg 132, I think this is more than we've learned about Jon Snow's birth than every other reference combined.
My question continues to be whether that's actually the true story. Or the Stark spin. Not that it's the most important question giving resultant events. Since Ghost Jon won't be marrying anyone.
Given the presence of a red priest at Castle Black, I suspect Jon may receive the Dondarrion Cure even if he *is* dead. But I'm also not counting anyone as dead from a cliffhanger "injured and it all goes black" chapter, no matter how hopeless it seems, because Martin loves those. Arya's had three, I think?
I think he's at least temporarily dead. But whether it's the Warg thing, or the Mellisandre thing it does, essentially, write him out of the command structure of the Night Watch don't ya think?
Admittedly it gives him the freedom to do what he wants since death absolves all oaths, but I'm not sure where that leaves things with the Watch other than a new war with the Wildlings who now have forts on the wall.
So.... messy. And I'd have hoped we were going to start cleaning up a bit sometime soon.
"He was dead!" "He's not dead. He wasn't dead, just NEARLY dead, and would have died without magic. The red witch fixed him, with magic. He's still in charge. NEXT?"
Yeah but then they'd have to kill him all over again for wanting to break his oath.... just very confusing business with all the knives and fire and what not.
Jon's turning into his adopted father was so utterly emphasized that I really should have seen it as foreshadowing. The same sort-of-bracketing-the-book arc, even.
Ehhhhhh. I would normally accept that... but the men of the Night Watch know something about the business of brutal murder and I can't imagine they'd leave the job half done.

(I. Hate. Melisandre. And all she represents, completely sincerely as her PoV demonstrated.)

Date: 2011-07-18 04:59 pm (UTC)Question for discussion:
Jon dies thinking of Ghost... which could.. in theory... lead to warg transitioning from him into Ghost.
So just who drives Jon when Melli stands him back up?
