The latest Weapon Of Mass Distraction.
Oct. 3rd, 2005 11:09 amBush has picked the second Supreme Court justice: Harriet Miers, formerly his personal lawyer and now White House Counsel.
She has never been a judge.
She has never clerked for the Supreme or an Apellate court.
She clerked for a trial court from 1970-72.
She has never argued before the Supreme Court.
Her only qualification, in fact, appears to be that she thinks Bush is "the most brilliant man I've ever met"
(For those of you hearing about her former leadership of the "gay deprogrammers" Exodus Ministries: That's not correct. She's the former head of Exodus International, which is equally religious but not quite equally loony. EI are a prison-rehab-through-Jesus program, not a gay-rehab-through-Jesus program. She was, however, involved in covering up Bush's lack of national guard service.)

American news.
Oct. 3rd, 2005 12:31 pmNo, really, paying newspeople to lie on camera for you using public money really *IS* illegal. Remember also: Clinton's perfectly legal blowjob cost the country.... nothing except the impeachment costs when he lied about it in a kangaroo court which was, itself, a waste of time and money. And he was impeached.
Bush threatens to veto defense bill if it tries to make torture, rape, and murder of prisoners illegal. Really, do you need any more evidence that torture, rape, and murder of prisoners is official policy?
Speaking of prisoner abuse, we have more, but this time it's in New Orleans.
Speaking of New Orleans, the promised housing and relief hasn't materialised, and won't. Why? Because they're poor, and as soon as the cameras left them, Bush stopped giving a shit.

I'd like to take some of these cats on a field trip. I want to get big yellow buses with no air conditioner and no seatbelts and round up Bill O'Reilly, Pat Buchanan, Trent Lott, Sean Hannity, Dick Cheney, Jeb Bush, Bush Jr. and Bush Sr., John Ashcroft, Giuliani, Ed Gillespie, Katherine Harris, that little bow-tied Tucker Carlson and any other right-wing conservative Republicans I can think of, and take them all on a trip to the ‘hood. Not to do no 30-minute documentary. I mean, I want to drop them off and leave them there, let them become one with the other side of the tracks, get them four mouths to feed and no welfare, have scare tactics run through them like a laxative, criticizing them for needing assistance. Finally, "A true story about Bill Bennett" and the aims of Republicans when it comes to education.
Weird news.

A man reported missing from a Florida hospital was found in North Carolina dressed like a doctor and driving a stolen ambulance with a dead deer wedged in the back
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol found him driving the ambulance with the deer on Sunday. "I don't know how the man got it up in there," said Sgt. Robert Pearson. "It was a six point buck." It wasn't known where Holliman got the deer, which had been dead for some time. Authorities tracked the stolen ambulance through three rural North Carolina counties and one county in southern Virginia before its tires were punctured and it wound up in a ditch, Pearson said.
Holliman was admitted to a North Carolina hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.

Oct. 3rd, 2005 01:34 pmThe Appellate Court of Illinois ruled in July that the family of Detroy Marshall Sr. could proceed with their lawsuit against Burger King for Marshall's wrongful death caused when a car jumped the curb and crashed into a BK whose building was protected by a brick wall that the restaurant had built only a few feet from the ground instead of higher up. The trial court had dismissed the lawsuit, ruling that Burger Kings can't be expected to build fortresses against recklessly driven, airborne cars.

South Carolina senator trying to pass a law requiring that schools teach that evolution is controversial.
"We'd like to see neutrality," he said. "We'd like to see science speak for itself and not have advocates for a theory of a single cell becoming man, for which there is no evidence. Duh, I eat poop."

New Music:

Stream of Passion
Check out their single track "deceiver". Progressive goth-rock. Vaulting and etherial. Like a mellower Lacuna Coil or an Evanescence that isn't factory-produced. Some good shit, yo.
On completely the opposite note, God Forbid:

They've got a couple of tracks for download, but my favourite is off their tour site - "streaming only", so I made an MP3. "Chains Of Humanity"
