Today's Election News!
Sep. 12th, 2008 03:31 pm"The Conservative Party is still scrambling to find someone to run in Halifax after their hand-picked candidate with two criminal convictions resigned."
Liberal Party searching for new candidate in Quebec City after Simon Bedard's past remarks in favour of slaughtering Mohawks come to light.
CPC communications direct sacked for insulting the integrity of a dead soldier's father. For bonus points: The father was saying something that was a CPC slogan just two years ago.
CPC's "build your own intellectually vacuous attack ad"[1] site slammed for plagiarism.
[1]: It's a surprisingly fun party game. Start with a CPC slogan ("Vote Stephen Harper - because Stephane Dion thinks black people are *human*!"), add in some inspiring music and have Evil Voiceover Guy say something nonsequitorish!
In other, lesser election news,
Sarah Palin tried to have someone else debate for her in the Alaska governor's race.

Republican dirty tricks in Ohio.
Sep. 12th, 2008 07:46 pmMcCain campaign prints, mails more than a million "request an absentee ballot" forms with an extra, unnecessary,
"pointless"[1] checkbox - and if you return the form but don't check that box, you legally are de-registered and can't vote.
[1]: The point is to disenfranchise voters, of course, a standard Republican goal. But it doesn't have to be there, and shouldn't be.

Sep. 12th, 2008 08:26 pm"Don't think of Ike as a Cat 2 or 3 hurricane, think of it as a tsunami 200 miles long with hurricane winds above."
Based on total kinetic energy, Ike is now the second-most powerful Atlantic event since measurements began.
Galveston, TX's weather service says:
"All neighborhoods... and possibly entire coastal communities... will be inundated during high tide. Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single family one or two story homes will face certain death"
