What I hate about the privilege argument is that it's basically a shortcut to dismissing someone else who disagrees with you or who just doesn't care as much as you do about something. And this case makes it particularly funny because you don't even have a leg to stand on. You're saying that I can't possibly have a valid opinion because I'm what? Older than the kids? because I managed to age? nothing will change the fact that you're reaching.

to say nothing of the fact that the situation can be both upsetting and funny at the same time. I never said the old guy wasn't a dick. he is. but that doesn't make it less funny.

It seems what you hate about the privilege argument is that your opinion is being disagreed with on the grounds that people think you are an asshole and not considerate of those less fortunate.

It's not that your opinion isn't valid, it's that you're happy to be entertained by bad things happening to other people and would be horrified if those things happen to you.

You said the guy was your hero, that implies you're happy with what he did, you later appended so long as he doesn't do it to you our yours.

That sort of callous disregard for other people is a pretty strong sign of the privilege TWK is taking about, someone familiar with being targeted would probably be more likely to think of it happening to themselves first and find it less amusing.

Second: Once again, you demonstrate in no uncertain terms that you don't understand what people are objecting to.

Nobody is saying your opinion isn't valid. We're saying it's ignorant, cruel, and fundamentally stupid, and were you not so consistently incapable of basic empathy you probably wouldn't still hold it.

Nobody gives a shit about "valid". We're saying "disgusting", in the exact same sense as if I'd posted a story about rape and you'd responded with "bitch deserved it. And, really, I'd hit that!"

I didn't. In fact, I agreed that if he did that to someone I cared about I'd lay him out for it. I don't begrudge people caring. I begrudge them demonizing me because I don't.
